Academic Research: Under this focus area, AHERF aspires to seek answers to burning medical questions through pure research which will benefit the medical community at large.
Product/ Application oriented Research: Under this focus area; AHERF seeks to identify clear objectives in terms of an end product/application which can be used to improve human lives be it a diagnostic test, therapy, delivery etc.
Our Strengths
AHERF converges a variety of strengths from within the Apollo Group which are critical to any research collaboration namely – best-in-class clinicians from over 50 hospitals, clinical data, infrastructure, access to patients and international linkages.
Collaborations
Quintiles : Quintiles and Apollo has entered into a JV to establish a high quality, globally competitive Phase I clinical trial unit in India. Industry’s increasing inclination to explore India as a possible Phase I destination has lead to the JV. The facility will be a replica of the Quintiles Phase I facility in Kansas USA. The implementation is in process and is anticipated to start functioning from Q4 2011. The unit will take up the First in Human studies when relevant regulatory approvals are in place.
Stem Cyte: StemCyte India Therapeutics Private Limited – A Joint Venture between Apollo Hospitals, StemCyte Inc USA and Cadila Pharmaceuticals has been initiated on 24 March 2010 at Ahmedabad. The objective of the new business unit is to establish and operate a hybrid public and private Bank to store Umbilical Cord Blood Stem Cells and use them to prevent and treat various diseases and health disorders. The bank is operational now and the next step is to extend into research activities for developing therapies to treat various health disorders such as malignant blood disorders, inherited disorders, immune deficiency diseases, spinal cord injuries, chronic stroke, hematopoetic disorders including thallassemia, sickle cell anemia and critical limb ischemia for the benefit of the public around the world. The healthcare facilities of Apollo Hospitals will be utilized to conduct clinical trials related to the research areas with technical advise and protocol from StemCyte Inc.
IIT, Madras: As a model of Public Private Partnership, AHERF has entered into a collaboration with IIT Madras to take up collaborative clinical research proposals / projects to promote and assist scientific and medical research programs having a bearing on the health, scientific, social, economic and industrial needs of India and to further enhance the scientific image of the organization. The ongoing proposal aims to provide a critical insight into the putative molecular mechanism of vascular abnormalities in PCOS and open up new avenues to understand macro and micro-vascular complications in PCOS.
